CLARK SOPHOMORE FOOTBALL HAS PERFECT SEASON

The Clark Sophomore football team completed a perfect 10-0 season with a hard-fought win over Smithson Valley, winning 20-6.
As with other games this season, Clark wasted no time in setting the tone defensively, recovering a fumble on the 2nd play of the game. Once Clark got their offense on the field, they knew exactly how to capitalize on their opponent’s mistakes.
With great blocking from the offensive line yet again, Clark’s running back tandem of Alex Ethridge (#24), Mariano Rendon (#31), Charles Quichocho (#34) and Michael Vasquez (#45) took their turn at running through the defense with time consuming drives. Taking a queue from their Varsity and JV brothers, Clark dominated time of possession in all games this season with a punishing running game and a very productive passing game led by quarterback Nick Coons (#7) and wide receivers Mitchell Rummel (#11), Jason Stock (#17) and Jeremy Sanchez (#82).
Clark scored on runs by Rendon (10 yds), Coons (1 yd) and Ethridge (1 yd), while only allowing a late touchdown. Even with penalty assistance, SV wasn’t able to score late in the 4th quarter, and Clark ran out the last 7 minutes of the game.
No team scored more than once on the Sophs and they made it a point to shut down any scoring attempts all season. With numerous behind the line tackles and causing too many turnovers to count, this defense was special and achieved the desired results that started way back in June. All the hard work and long practices paid off with fantastic results. Perfect seasons don’t come often, and the Sophs will use that as a foundation to take it to the next level.
