CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETES EXCEL AT FIRST MEET
by envisionfilmvideo.com on Sep.04, 2010, under Cross Country
The Cross Country season is off and running! Rain canceled the Southwest meet last year, and the team wondered if Friday’s showers would cause a repeat as the course is below street level. But Saturday dawned with clear, 70 degree skies – a beautiful day for early September in San Antonio. Taking advantage of the situation were a trio of Cougars – Glynnis Meade was 3rd (11:05.3) and Shantel Swift, 4th (11:06.8) for the girls race (approx 1.9 miles), and Austin Wells, 4th(14:52.4) for the boys race (approx 2.95 miles). The girls placed 7th out of 26 teams, with scoring added by Katherine Ritchie, Amanda De La Fuentes, and Valerie Vacek. Lauren Porter and Catherine Seifert rounded out the Varsity team. The boys team were 15th out of 33 teams, with Tyrell Lewis, Aidan Pierce, Harry MacTough, and Nicholas Moseley scoring, followed by Daniel Carcamo and JR Guajardo. Both teams include several new runners, including a few Freshman running as Cougars for the first time. It was an exciting day for all!

A much improved Clark Cougar varsity football team scored often but had trouble stopping an Alamo Heights air attack, losing to the Mules 33-29. The Cougars are now 0-2 as they prepare for a district opener against Taft.
Alamo Heights struck first with a FG and then added 7 more points with 7 seconds left in the first quarter to take a 9-0 lead in what appeared to be the end of the quarter. Momentum, however, jumped to Clark’s side as Ryan Jones ended the 1st quarter with a 94 yard kickoff return. Going into the 2nd quarter, the score was 9-7 Alamo Heights.
The second quarter belonged to the Cougars, who scored two touchdowns but gave up another field goal and TD , the latter coming moments before halftime. Ryan Jones once again found the end zone and Deandre Holmes scored his first varsity TD with 1:43 left in the half. The Cougars went to the locker room with a 22-19 advantage.
