COACH RULES!

Clark boys soccer coach Walter Rule hit a major milestone on Friday with the 300th win in his 21 year career. The 1-0 victory over Boerne Champion in the New Braunfels Tournament kick starts the new season. Yamil Alvarado had the Cougar’s lone goal. Read more about Coach Rule in the Express News.
The Clark girls also started their new season with a 1-0 victory over Madison in the Northside tournament. Chloe Trevino got the Cougars on the board in the first half.

SOCCER KICKS OFF

Soccer season hits the ground running on Friday with tournaments scheduled for both Clark varsity squads. The girls get started against Madison, Judson and Boerne Champion in the Northside tournament. The Cougars then have a early season district match up with Taft next Tuesday the 17th at 7:00 at Farris.
The Clark boys start the season with high expectations, ranked #4 in the city, and set to defend their district championship. First up is the New Braunfels tournament this weekend. The boys get their early taste of district against Taft also on the 17th starting at 5:00 at Farris.

CLARK STILL TOPS

The Clark boys basketball team remains in first place in District 27-5A riding a 5 game win streak with recent victories over Holmes, O’Connor and Taft and December wins over Stevens and non district foe New Braunfels. The Cougars are tied with Brandeis for the top spot in district, both teams have a 6-1 record. Clark defeated Stevens 46-39, New Braunfels 60-47, Holmes 52-34, beat O’Connor 53-42 and Taft 62-54. Senior guard Adam Perez leads the team in scoring, averaging 20 points a game through the current win streak.
Clark is ranked 5th in the Express News San Antonio area rankings and 25th in the state according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Next up is Marshall on Friday at 6:30 at Paul Taylor and get ready for a showdown with Brandeis next Tuesday!

CLARK GIRLS TAKE DOWN TAFT

The Clark girls basketball team started the second half of the district season on a winning note with a 54-45 win over Taft early this week. Leading the Cougars were Donna Matthews with 12 points and 4 rebounds, Kristen Lye with 11points and 6 rebounds and Katy Baum with 10 points. Clark trailed 15-25 at halftime, but surged through a 23 point third quarter to take the lead. Clark is 5-4 in district with a chance at the playoffs as they move through the remainder of district games.
Next up is Marshall on Saturday at 1:30 at Paul Taylor. GO COOGS!!!
CLARK HANDLES HUSKIES

The Clark girls basketball team pushed their district record in the right direction with a 50-35 victory over Holmes on Tuesday. Leading the Cougars was junior center Trei Torain with 13 points, followed by Kristen Lye with 11 points. Donna Matthews had 9 points and Katy Baum and freshman Kirsten Kramer each had 7. The win brings Clark’s season record to 14-9 and their district record to 4-3.
Up next is O’Connor on Friday at 5:30 at Paul Taylor.

FALL HONORS

Several Clark Cougars were recognized for their outstanding play during the fall sports season. Topping the list is cross country junior runner Austin Wells who was named to the Express News Super Team for Cross Country as well as the Area Team.
From Clark volleyball the 27-5A All district 1st team includes Jenn Garrett and Marcella Arellano. Named to the 2nd team is Abigail Glosup and Nicole Rehm.
27-5A 1st team offense football honors went to Manny Menezes. 2nd team offense honors to Kweku Larbie, Brandon Yates, Blake DeHart and Alex Hunter. The 2nd team defense includes Logan Hanna, Tri-Rice Van Buren and Malcolm Eatman.

In addition to district honors, several Cougars were recognized on the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All State Teams. Achieving 1st Team honors for football: Mitchell Rummel and Logan Hanna. Second team honors went to Alex Hunter, Brian Socha, Dusty Wright and Ty Williams. Honorable mention went to Sean Campbell, Ryan Cover, Troy Ogletree, Blake DeHart and Manny Menezes. And in Cross Country Honorable Mention Academic All State honors went to Shantel Swift.
