Cougars #10 this week

Cougars #10 this week

The Clark Cougar varsity football team, ready for the playoffs after a perfect regular season, earned a Top Ten ranking in the Associated Press Texas state rankings.  Already listed #8 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football in the state, the Cougars are #1 in San Antonio by the Express News, ranked #1 in Region IV by TheOldCoach.com and Rivals.com  and #1 by KSAT 12.  5ATexasFootball.com has consistently listed the team in their bottom twenty, this week at #25.  Go figure.

Hats off to the defense for picking up a “Game Ball” in the Express News this week for their smash mouth performance against Holmes, allowing only 17 yards in total offense and grabbing three turnovers.

Congratulations, Cougars!  BTHO Wagner!

Cougars to run at State meet

The Region IV Cross Country meet, held at Brooks City Base today, resulted in two Cougars qualifying for the State meet next weekend in Round Rock!  Shantel Swift (11:49.2) placed 9th in the girls 5A 2 mile race, and David Scorcelletti (16.04.8) was 8th in the boys 5k race.  The top 10 individuals and top 3 teams move on to State.  Just missing the trip north with great runs were Glynnis Meade (11:58.4), 11th and Jose Sierra (16:25.0), 12th in their respective races, and the boys team finished an amazing but heartbreaking 4th place.  The girls scoring was wrapped up by Stacey Wilkens (13.08.4), Katherine Ritchie (13:31.1) and Shaneve Swift (13:35.3), and the boys by Austin Wells (16:36.2) – who was 17th, plus James Leopold (17:12.0), and Ryan Pavlich (17:35.8).  The girls team finished 12th.  Congratulations to all for a great season, and best wishes to Shantel and David at State!

CLARK SOPHOMORE FOOTBALL HAS PERFECT SEASON

by on Nov.06, 2009, under Football

The Clark Sophomore football team completed a perfect 10-0 season with a hard-fought win over Smithson Valley, winning 20-6.

As with other games this season, Clark wasted no time in setting the tone defensively, recovering a fumble on the 2nd play of the game. Once Clark got their offense on the field, they knew exactly how to capitalize on their opponent’s mistakes.
With great blocking from the offensive line yet again, Clark’s running back tandem of Alex Ethridge (#24), Mariano Rendon (#31), Charles Quichocho (#34) and Michael Vasquez (#45) took their turn at running through the defense with time consuming drives. Taking a queue from their Varsity and JV brothers, Clark dominated time of possession in all games this season with a punishing running game and a very productive passing game led by quarterback Nick Coons (#7) and wide receivers Mitchell Rummel (#11), Jason Stock (#17) and Jeremy Sanchez (#82). Cougars end season in playoffs

Cougars end season in playoffs

With what seemed like the entire East Central community watching, the Hornets defeated the Clark Cougars volleyball team in the first round of the 2009 5A playoffs.  The Cougars scored the first point of the match but that would be their only lead, falling 14-25, 17-25 and 16-25.  This was the 25th straight year the Cougars have made it to the playoffs.  Special recognition goes to this year’s Seniors – Vanessa Casanova, Claire Webster, Katlin Mazzocco, Kayla Jarzombek, Liz Bergman and Stephanie Peña.  Congratulations, you’ll be missed and good luck next year.

The Cougars are coached by Kristen Daniell.
